Medical Tourism 'Killing' Nigerian Health Sector - Kanu Nwankwo



Former Super Eagle Captain Kanu Nwankwo said the rush seek medical treatment outside Nigeria is gradually killing the health sector, as the country is losing billions to other countries.

Footballer and founder of Kanu Heart Foundation,Nwankwo, said all the money spent abroad on health treatment could be invested in the Nigerian health sector and improve its present deplorable condition thereby restoring confidence of medical personnel.

He spoke yesterday during his foundation's N5billion cardiac centre fund raising lottery logo unveiling ceremony meant to build a 40-bed capacity health facility in Abuja.

Earlier, Dr Iretiola Bosede Babaniyi, a Chief Consultant Pediatrician/Pediatric Cardiologist at the National Hospital, pointed out that the country has only 168 registered cardiologists in Nigeria, saying the number was to too small to cater for the increasing cases of heart diseases in the country.
