Team Nigeria gets N1.9 Billion from Federal Government

To make sure that Team Nigeria gets the best of preparations and participation at the London 2012 Olympics, the Federal Government has approved a whooping sum of N1.9 billion for Nigeria’s contingent to the games.
Minister of Sports Bolaji Abdulahi, disclosed this to journalists yesterday in Abuja. The minister explained that the released money, which was confirmed last Friday, would enable the Sports commission to immediately facilitate the proposed training tours for athletes, which had been delayed due to lack of funds.
“The Federal Government has approved and we are happy to announce the receipt of the fund budgeted for Nigeria’s preparations and participation at the 2012 London Olympic Games.
“We will, with immediate effect, commence the disbursement of the fund for our athletes in Atlanta, the Taekwondo team in Korea as well as begin the process of sending our boxers, who are currently in Benin, to Germany for the full training,” said the minister. He also hinted on the need to immediately commence preparations for the next Olympics, rather than wait till it is just months away.
